luv472 From On Hold To Eternity

From On Hold To Eternity

have you ever made a call and been placed on hold for what seemed like an eternity? it’s happened to me many times, but the last time it happened it was different. at first everything seemed normal. i dialed the number, was told to hold for a moment and then the muzak started, designed to placate my savage soul while i wait for someone to answer my call. at first it was innocuous enough, somewhat groovy, happy music music with all the extremes tidily trimmed. as i was grooving along and not really paying attention to the time, 20 minutes slipped past and i started getting kinda antsy and bored of waiting around. it was really starting to get to me. now as this was happening the music playing on the end of the line started changing to fit my mood. i didn’t even notice it happening but as an apathetic feeling started coming over me, the music started becoming more formless. i had been waiting so long that the very concept of time began losing all meaning. i was floating in a void where the muzak had melted away and faraway sounds from ancient telephone lines started peaking through. i was floating free, waiting for someone, anyone, to answer my call. after some more time passed i started getting comfortable with this new timeless freedom and the music slowly started coming back to life. at this point i was feeling a little bit washed out from being on the phone for so long so i closed my eyes and just listened.  eventually the music stopped and i just hung up, having completely forgotten why i made the call in the first place. luckily i record all my telephone calls for quality assurance purposes and can present to you the most transcendental hold muzak i have ever heard.

Everything Will Probably Be Alright

everything you know is wrong. everything good is bad and everything bad is good. also, nobody cares.
phew! isn’t that a relief! ‘cos if nothing really matters than all of the expectations and societal pressures we put ourselves under to constantly perform and produce also don’t matter! there’s a kind of freedom to this notion of “cheery nihilism”.
here’s a mix that attempts to cover our collective existential dread in a veil of musical whimsy. enjoy the beauty you can find and revel in life’s absurdities because if nothing matters why wouldn’t you?

luv453 At The End Of Your Rope

At The End Of Your Rope

music, and all art in general, is a way of conveying feelings, emotions and ideas that are too complex to explain with just the basics of communication offered by language. we survive by using all our senses in tandem to help us understand and navigate our surroundings. sometimes we use our collective senses to protect us from the beasts that hunt us but other times we use the information to help those around us that are suffering. music connects people on a deeper level and reassures us that we are not alone in our thoughts and in the world. the intangible communication that comes from art provides a much needed connection. music has always been there for me when i have been at the end of my rope. i share these mixtapes in the hope that music is there for others when they are at the end of theirs.

bouncing between the guard rails of punk and mainstream radio rock this mixtape finds common ground in power pop. where household names and total unknowns use the forward thrust of chugging chords and driving drums to create a chewed up late 70s / early 80s bubblegum pop sound and energy that hits a bunch of my nostalgia centers.

remember the good old days? way back in the early fifties when everything was wholesome and good, before rock’n’roll took over the youth and steered our country to ruin. this collection of music from the years 1951 to 1954 contains a healthy dose of rhythm & blues and country & western with a smattering of jazz, calypso & Latin sounds. i hope you enjoy these wholesome sides, feel free to use them as a buffer to the lewd & crass times we find ourselves in.
