Outside The Lines
a small sliver of jazz from the decade spanning 1947 to 1956. a time where jazz musicians started coloring outside the lines, pushing traditional forms to explore sonic terrains creating new styles and harmonic theories in the post-bop era. whether it be expanding the palette of big band or experimenting with rhythms and chord changes or just plain old jaw-dropping virtuoso playing, these cats were feeling out the new sounds. by coloring outside the lines these musicians expanded the boundaries of what jazz is and became the solid foundation for the next wave of jazz giants to build upon.
